Vísindarannsóknir

Rannsóknir og nýsköpun hefur ávallt verið ein af grunnstoðum Blóðbankans og í dag fer þar fram öflugt rannsóknar- og nýsköpunarstarf m.a. á sviði stofnfrumurannsókna, frumumeðferða, vefjaverkfræði og blóðbankafræði. Markmið rannsóknar- og nýsköpunarstarfs Blóðbankans er að brúa bilið á milli tilraunavísinda og læknisfræðilegra rannsókna til að skapa jarðveg fyrir nýjungar í læknisfræði á sviði stofnfruma, vefjaverkfræði og blóðbankafræða á Íslandi.

Undanfarin ár hafa verið gjöful á sviði rannsókna og nýsköpunar í Blóðbankanum. Hægt er að þakka það mikilli vinnu starfsmanna, frábæru samstarfsfólki innanlands og erlendis auk hóps af hæfileikaríkum nemendum sem gegna lykilhlutverki í rannsóknar og nýsköpunarstarfi í Blóðbankanum. Blóðbankinn lítur á rannsóknir og nýsköpun og þjálfun nema sem eina af undirstöðum blóðbankaþjónustu á Íslandi og hefur innleitt vísindastefnu til að marka spor til framtíðar.

Deild rannsókna og nýsköpunar er stýrt af Dr. Ólafi E. Sigurjónssyni prófessor við verkfræðideild Háskólans í Reykjavík og klínískum prófessor við læknadeild Háskóla Íslands. Þar að auki býr Blóðbankinn yfir reynslumiklum vísindamönnum sem hafa í gegnum árin verið öflug á sviði grunnrannsókna, Dr. Sveinn Guðmundsson, yfirlæknir, Dr. Steinunn Thorlacius verkefnastjóri, Dr. Þorbjörn Jónsson klínískur prófessor við læknadeild HÍ og sérfræðilæknir í Blóðbankanum
